Scalped is one of the most depressing series I've read, with the characters constantly struggling against the harsh realities of life. While this stand-alone tale is no exception, it is slightly more hopeful as it tells the tale of a loving old couple and their struggles.
This story is also collected in Vol. 7 of the trades, but I wanted to single it out for mention because I think it really stands out as one of the best stories I've read.
